Green River at Nairn Falls

From Whistler, travel North on the 99 Highway towards Pemberton for about 20 minutes through the mountains, past Green Lake, and you’ll reach Nairn Falls Provincial Park, located on the Green River. A short 1.5-kilometer hike on a pleasant trail past rushing waters and great views (if you look past the trees lining the trail) will bring you to a stunning 60 meters of falling water.

Formed by volcanic activity, Nairn Falls is a spiritual site for the Lil’wat Nation, and is surrounded by forests consisting of western hemlock, red cedar and coastal Douglas fir. Keep your eyes open for the rubber boa, a hard-to-spot brown/gray snake that comes out mostly at night, but might be seen sleeping during the day. Squirrels, raccoons and ravens can be spotted easily.

The path leading to the falls doesn’t leave much for exploring, but visitors are able to walk down to the edge of the river at a point where the rapids are tame to get close to the famously green water and surrounding scenery.

Nairn Falls is a great spot to visit for an afternoon. People of all hiking abilities can enjoy the walk. Shaded picnic tables close to the parking lot welcome tired visitors after their outing, or let you enjoy the park just a little longer. Should you choose to stay overnight, camping is available from the beginning of May to the end of September.
